Start-up, scale, exit

Start-up and scale new type of service provider.

For French/Dutch shareholders, I led the start-up and scaling ( incl. the development of an enabling Control Tower software application) towards exit of this new type of service provider. Managed services have been delivered to clients such as Apple, Tektronix, Stanley, Autoliv and Philips.

Situation: In 1995, French-Dutch investors had the ambition to set up a new type of logistics service for launching customer Apple. A service which would later make a name for itself as 4th Party Logistics- or Control Tower services.

Challenge: To successfully shape services for Apple and scale it to broader market.

Approach: Logistics process management, in-house developed software and self-organizing teams were the backbone of the service delivered to customers. The software provided transparency in the logistics performance and costs of the contracted sea, air, rail and road transport companies. This enabled the self-managing account teams to optimize the supply chain on the basis of value and urgency, to respond quickly/effectively to developments and evaluate and pay contracted parties. By actively involving employees and external stakeholders in iterations of the further development of the service, continuous innovation was optimally secured.

Based on the success at Apple, this value add service was then scaled to customers such as Tektronix, Autolive, Philips and Stanley. In 1999, ALIS was sold successfully.
